Sanzo Inari Shrine Setsubun Festival

◆Date and time: Tuesday, February 3, 2020, 19:00-20:30

◆Yutate Shinto Ritual: From 7pm

Water is boiled in a large cauldron, a blessing is offered to the boiling water, coins are thrown into it, the water is further heated with goma wood, and the boiling water is then scattered with bamboo leaves to ward off evil spirits.

After the ritual, the coins thrown in are scooped up with a ladle, and the amount of money thrown in is used to predict the year's financial luck. Business people borrow money as capital, and individuals put them in a bag (available for purchase at the shrine for 1,000 yen) as a talisman to help them save money and keep it in their wallets. The following year, they offer more than double the amount to the shrine as an offering of gratitude.
